Let me start by saying that I am not, by any means, an expert. I just love whisky and enjoy writing about it.
Perhaps like many, my early experiences of whisky was of cheap blends that in my opinion, could only just be tolerated when loaded with ice and drowned in a mixer. My epiphany came at a funeral a few years back when I was offered a dram and accepted, as much out of politeness as anything. That dram was a 12 year old Highland Park and it changed my life.
I have immersed myself in the subject over the last few years in an attempt to further my knowledge. I’ve devoured every book, magazine, documentary (and dram) I could get my hands on and have also taken part and completed the Scotch Whisky Trail Certificate Course run by whisky writer and Master of Malt, John Lamond, as well as completing the Whisky Ambassador course – an accredited whisky training program aimed at the licensed trade (see links below for more info).
